Fragment from a relief plaque that depicts Athena mounting a chariot.

The goddess wears chiton, which would continue on the rest of the lost plaque, and over it himation and a long aegis. The semi-circles along the latter’s hem are most possibly stylised snakes. She would be represented jumping on the chariot box using her right leg whereas her left leg would still be on the ground. She stretches out her right arm holding the reins; she would have held her spear in her left hand. On plaques of this type, over the goddess’ left arm, an owl is depicted. The fragment surface retains white slip that was used as the undercoat for the final hues: light-blue in the background, on Athena’s neck and the aegis’ hem, red for her himation, green for the aegis and black for the chariot outline.
